I started my journey in the beauty business back in 2015!
Now that I think it’s 2024, it’s been 9 years😳
At the time I was finishing high school and started thinking of some side hustle. I started doing lash extensions for myself, I was in love with how they look and this service was in crazy high demand. So I decided to take the class myself!
Shortly I started my side hustle from home taking friends and family. I will be honest my very first works were not the best at all😀
Once a client complained that her lashes were very uncomfortable and heavy, she wanted to remove them! I was about to give up. But one thing I knew if others make it work, this means that I can do it too.
I continued practicing on mannequins and models. Eventually with lots of practice I knew how to do it right.
My primary focus was quality! I was ready to over deliver, do it 110%. And it made me a name, so in a matter of 6 months of consent work and advertising I got fully booked with a waiting list of clients. I loved what I did, I loved the freedom that I get as a self employed lash tech.
However I felt like I needed to grow and explore something new.
In 2019 I decided to take a Permanent Makeup class. With PMU I had more fears than with lashes, because permanent makeup is something that you cant mess up!
My first work came out far away from my expectations and I was extremely unmotivated. Even though the model was satisfied, I wasn’t happy with the result, and felt like I am not ready for real clients, so I stopped it for half a year.
Pandemic hits, I have plenty of free time and I thought to myself why not to spend this time with purpose, and continue practicing PMU.
Slowly and surely I saw great improvement. My lash clients were asking me for brows and lips service. I started to receive referrals from them. World of mouth is the best form of advertising, the most trusted.
Today I am glad I was always learning, facing my fears, practicing and got to the point when I can share my knowledge with others. I am happy to see “wow” reactions from my clients. It makes my job more fulfilling when I see that I made someone happy and more beautiful!
My final thought here is to believe in yourself, practice with determination and focus to OVER deliver first!
If I returned back to 2019, would I start PMU again? 💯 YES!
PMU is very interesting, there are always new techniques to learn. There is so much growth potential.
In any work, if you are passionate about it, you will make it work and reach success!
